Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director is responsible for staff supervision, behavior/discipline issues with campers, parent questions/concerns, keeping the program space neat and organized. This position is directly responsible for the safety and supervision of ALL campers and staff within the camp.

The candidate must have the ability to work with people of all ages in both formal and informal settings. The candidate should be self motivated, energetic and have a positive attitude, looking for the best in themselves and in the people around them. They must be able to handle difficult behavior/discipline issues with campers. They must be able to interact well with parents. They must also be positive and nurturing to children, and should be able to set consistent limits for the children and lead by example for staff, never asking them to do something they are not willing to do themselves.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have prior experience in child care, day camp, or recreational leadership with children.
Current certification in child CPR and First Aid is preferred.
Must have proven experience in supervising adults (up to 15 people).
A commitment to working with youth in an indoor and outdoor day camping environment.
Basic understanding of excel and word.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent time management and ability to multi task is a MUST!
Research, contact and book on site field trips, guest speakers/presentations, research supplies/materials needed for "specialty camps" and prepare curriculum for the five (5) Specialty Camps to be repeated twice during the summer camp season.

Lead by example
Work amicably with the other two Assistant Camp Directors from the other two facility based camps and other senior staff.
Act as Camp Director in the Directors absence or when asked to by Director
Attend all pre season staff training sessions, and assist/lead in the training of staff through the orientation prior to the start of camp.
Represent (sometimes alone) Discovery Camp at scheduled camp fairs, expos and open houses.
Attend and assist Camp Director with all staff meetings (at times will be needed to facilitate meetings without Camp Director).
Assist the camp staff in the supervision and behavior management of campers.
Consistently and accurately maintain any and all logs.
Responsible for contacting parents when needing information, or informing them of disciplinary and or medical issues regarding their child.
Handle all walk-in and phone queries from parents and visitors that enter Camp.
Responsible for evaluation of staff members.
Responsible for the cleanliness and organization of program area space with the other two Assistant Camp Directors from the other two facility based day camps.
Responsible for knowing the up-to-date camp enrollment numbers and sending staff home accordingly.
Ensure that all campers are receiving quality care and supervision throughout the day.
Promote positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
Care for and maintain all camp property and equipment used.
Promote the values and beliefs of the YMCA by acting as a positive role model for all campers, staff, and parents.
Facilitate in the daily dismissal of campers to parents, busses, or post camp.
Lead supervision of campers and staff during pre/post camp program (on a rotating basis with other two Assistant Camp Directors).
Responsible for creating schedule/rosters every Friday for the following week
Must be able to identify and react to any reasonable first aid emergency in a quick and fail proof manner.
Report to Camp Director any and all dangerous situations in camp.
Reviews all camper health forms/report and is aware of those campers with special medical conditions, medications, and/or allergies and keeps applicable staff up to date.
Maintains first aid to be a clean and safe environment and has it stocked for each day.
Performs medication management for applicable campers and properly updates health logs.
Act as your group's immediate health care responder for all reasonably anticipated health-care concerns based on the individual, location and activity. Examples: tick removal, sunburn, dehydration, scrapes etc.
Preventative measures to avoid illness and the spread of infection for both yourself and others are to be used through the use of CPR barrier, masks or gloves.
Responsible for daily attendance at check in/out each day (along with the other two Assistant Camp Directors).
