Licensure DUTIES:
The Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Program Coordinator is considered the manager of programs and services related to MST, and assigned to the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) and will work collaboratively with leadership, staff, and veterans to meet the mandates of public laws, VA directives and Uniform Mental Health Services. The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is assigned to the MHSL and will work autonomously to provide case assessment, diagnostics, treatment, and discharge planning to veterans requiring mental health treatment. The incumbent will function as a counselor, case manager, consultant, and educator, while providing a full range of psychotherapy modalities with individuals, couples, and groups. The MST Coordinator will develop, maintain, and monitor a plan to conduct universal MST screening at their facility. The MST Coordinator will monitor MST screening to assure the facility meets and/or exceeds the performance standard set by VACO, in accordance with public laws and directives. In addition, the MST Coordinator will collaborate with IRM to resolve identified problems with the MST screening software package and accuracy of data. The MST Coordinator will generate screening reminder reports and distribute accordingly to providers and locations. The MST Coordinator will maintain confidential documentation of MST screening, aggregated by gender. The MST Coordinator will monitor and ensure disposition of all MST consults to assure gender preferences and accessibility, in accordance with Uniform Mental Health services. The MST Coordinator will monitor MST screening reminders and assist providers through education and support in screening and generating consults. The MST Coordinator will provide staff education on MST screening, consults, available treatments, resources, and screening, eligibility, and billing. Additionally, the MST Coordinator will provide continuing education opportunities for staff working directly with veterans living with MST.

Relocation expenses will not be paid.

The incumbent will participate in the Mental Health clinical on-call rotation, provide Tele-Mental Health, serve on Interdisciplinary Treatment Teams, and maintain a patient panel.

Basic Requirements:
Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)

Education: Master's degree in marriage and family therapy form a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or have graduated from a nationally accredited program conferring a comparable mental health degree as specified in the qualification standards of those disciplines (Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry). All additional course work taken to be accepted for MFT licensure must come from a nationally accredited program in one of the above areas. NOTE: A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a COAMFTE approved program is considered to be a comparable mental health degree.

Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State.

GRADE REQUIREMENTS for GS-12: In addition to the basic requirements listed above, to qualify at the full performance level of this occupation, completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-master's degree experience in the field of health care marriage and family therapy work (VA or non-VA experience) is required. (C andidates must have at least I year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level). Experience must have been in a major specialty treatment program area such as, but not limited to, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), mental health intensive case management (MHICM). or other areas of equivalent scope and complexity. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the KSA's below:

1. Ability to make professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendation for treatment planning and implementation.

2. Advanced knowledge and mastery of the fundamentals of the counseling process which includes defining patient/family problems and maintaining an effective counseling relationship.

3. Ability to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and students on the counseling process within various specialty areas, build on the foundation of competence through regular meetings and discussions to explain assignments, review progress of cases and confer about the counseling perspectives and orientation.

4. Ability to provide complex crisis intervention and stabilization to patients who are in psychological distress.

5. Ability to establish goals/treatment through a collaborative process with the patient utilizing advanced counseling skills, including evidenced-based practices and screening/assessment.

6. Ability to use a wide variety of individual, group, or familial counseling interventions; demonstrates sensitivity to diversity and possesses multicultural counseling skills.

7. Ability to fully utilize the current DSM in making diagnoses and formulation of treatment goals and application of appropriate clinical intervention using professional counseling practices.

8. Ability to develop and deliver psycho-education groups that include life skills, family support, and community integration.

9. Advanced knowledge in program planning and development of policies and procedures.

10. Ability to make key decisions in the hiring and identification of top candidates.

11. Ability to provide leadership in facilitating the process of coordinating program consults assessments, admissions, care assignments and discharges.

12. Ability to provide subject matter consultation to other colleagues and students within the field of counseling working on an interdisciplinary team.
