Job Description
Vidant Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Vidant Medical Center is a regional resource for all levels of health services and information.
The hospital is a tertiary referral center and provides acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to more than 1.2 million people in 29 counties. In an average year, about 33,000 inpatients and more than 266,000 outpatients are treated in our facilities.
Labor and Delivery at Vidant Medical Center
As the tertiary referral center for 29 counties in eastern North Carolina, Labor and Delivery provides care to the highest risk obstetrical patient to the care for low-risk patients in a birthing center environment. This unit delivers almost 4000 babies annually. Unique to Labor and Delivery units, this unit provides a model that crosses the continuum of obstetrical services including Triage, High-risk Antepartum, Labor and Delivery, C-sections, PACU and newborn care.
Designated Baby Friendly Hospital
Family Centered Maternity Newborn Care is a strong value of Vidant Medical Center. Our goal is to keep mothers and babies together utilizing mother/baby couplet care as our model. Partnering with patients and families to make their experience exceptional is our goal. As one of only three designated Baby Friendly Hospitals in North Carolina, we value the importance of breastfeeding.
Affiliated with East Carolina Brody School of Medicine, Womens Services enjoys a collaborative relationship with academic physicians, private practice physicians, certified nurse midwives and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists
Brand New Childrens Hospital
In the summer of 2013, a new Childrens Hospital will open including a new entrance to Womens Services, a new Womens lobby, a Family Resource Center and a Boutique as well as many other services.
Education and Support for Nurses
Staff education and training are also valued strongly. Each nurse receives an individualized competency based orientation with support from a clinical coach and educators. AWHONN fetal monitor certification, Breastfeeding education, Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics, use of simulation and drills, as well as other opportunities for education are offered for staff.
