Background:
In meeting national interests, the Nonproliferation, Anti-terrorism, Demining and related programs (NADR)-funded Global Threat Reduction (GTR) programs seek to prevent diversion of scientific, engineering, and technical expertise and technologies related to weapons of mass destruction (WMD), their delivery systems, and other advanced military technologies from countries of proliferation concern or terrorist groups. GTR programs are global and include efforts to:
Engage and redirect former weapon scientists, engineers, and technicians to peaceful, civilian activities and provide incentives for them not to market their capabilities in weapons and related technology to potential proliferators or terrorists; Improve biological and chemical security and safety and engage biological and chemical scientists, technicians and engineers, including improving the security of dangerous pathogens Engage scientists, technicians and engineers with nuclear expertise.
Other program elements may be added as new opportunities and requirements develop. The programs operate under rigorous policy oversight and are implemented using a wide range of tools, including international agreements, grants, contracts, funds transfers to other U.S. Government programs, and the engagement of non-government organizations (NGOs) and the private sector.
Position
Description: This is a position for a project support specialist in the Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) to assist with the implementation of U.S. foreign assistance programs aimed at mitigating global WMD proliferation threats. Primarily responsible for assisting with the review of projects and individuals receiving funding through CTR-sponsored engagement activities Compiling information for technical reviews of project activities in the former Soviet Union Maintaining a database of scientists, technicians, and engineers engaged through CTR-sponsored activities Providing support for interagency reviews of research projects and fellowships; and compiling office-wide contributions for departmental taskers and reporting requirements Perform some administrative duties which include but are not limited to: escorting uncleared visitors in the CTR suite Updating time and attendance records for federal employees Maintaining the Office Director’s calendar Facilitate travel for CTR staff
Clearance: The incumbent must possess an active TOP SECRET security clearance and be eligible for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
