Founded as Mallinckrodt in 1867, the $2 billion Covidien pharmaceutical segment is in the process of spinning off into a separate business. This position will be responsible for managing the sourcing of capital equipment and MRO parts required to support all Mallinckrodt facilities globally. Services related to capital projects and facility storeroom management will also be within this scope. The total managed spend will be over $100 million per year with a focus on effective bidding, negotiation of contracts and supplier management. Annual savings targets will be several million dollars as determined by the specific spend categories and projects being addressed.
The Category Manager will be expected to deliver savings by working in a networked team environment with facilities that have a diversity of products and process operations by leveraging common requirements. The role will require effective negotiating skills as well as the ability to enlist support from engineering and operations staff across many levels in the organization. The role will support functional leadership by providing subject matter expertise in the categories and will work closely with operating sites and the engineering function to comply with corporate policies and guidelines to ensure that a robust sourcing and decision making process is firmly embedded across the organization.

Manage all category contracts and apply Key Supplier Management processes for the most critical suppliers. Develop strong support relationships with functional leaders and key site operations personnel across all business units. Leverage spend through sourcing, demand management, and best practices. Develop and implement aggressive cost reduction strategies. Closely coordinate with peers in other world areas to leverage common strategies, supplier contracts and practices. Measure, track and report results. Prepare and make presentations to senior management concerning major projects and milestones. Influence thought leaders within the organization and in our suppliers’ organization to identify and implement best practices. Maintain awareness of changing market conditions and technologies that create new opportunity for cost savings. In support of functional leadership, help establish priorities and resources needed to deliver the annual cost reduction plans for these functional areas. Refine and communicate long term global strategies with a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.

Education required/ preferred:
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred

A minimum of 7 years progressive experience in capital equipment sourcing and MRO in process manufacturing operations. The preferred candidate will have subject matter expertise and direct sourcing experience with capital equipment, capital projects and related services.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Well regarded in having built strong, progressive relationships with stakeholders without formal authority. Track record of delivering results in complex/ambiguous environments.

Track record of building strong sourcing relationships in and leading multi-functional teams.
Knowledge of relevant commodities and markets.
Proven contract negotiation skills.
Demonstrated written and verbal leadership skills.
Strong interpersonal communications and the ability to work independently and across multiple functions.

Training and team building experience a plus.
Ability to work well within a dynamic, ever-changing environment.
Problem solving ability, detail oriented ability to manage multiple tasks.
Independent worker with high degree of professionalism and integrity.

Proficient with business software including email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

Office environment, ability to travel at 20% to 30%

This position reports to the Category Director- Energy/MRO/Facilities Management and works closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Facilities, Real Estate and Finance functions. The candidate must be able to influence site management, budget holders, and motivate cross functional teams.
