We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Product Development Engineer located at our Vancouver, WA facility.
This individual will perform pilot and plant process development activities to develop and implement processes for the manufacture of gummy vitamin products. They will work collaboratively with other departments including Product Development, Package Development and Plant Manufacturing to scale-up and optimize new and existing product manufacture through pilot and plant trials.
Plans, organizes, and executes pilot studies to evaluate manufacturing processes for new confectionary vitamin products. Process evaluation including: mass and energy balances, dissolution, product flow, process cycle time optimization, flow diagrams, and equipment applicability.
Process development including pilot testing, design of experiments, design for robustness, plant feasibility, plant optimization, and continuous improvement.
Blending studies, data collection, content uniformity analysis, process applicability and summation, with recommendations for future experimentation, or process finalization.
Documentation of activities, writing of experimental protocols, reports, and manufacturing procedures.
Hands on work environment including equipment operation and parameter evaluation.
The successful candidate will possess a B.S. degree from an accredited institution in Chemical, Food Science or associated Engineering field or science discipline, a minimum of 5 years process experience within a manufacturing environment preferably gummy or confectionary type products. A preference will be towards candidates that have familiarity with laboratory and manufacturing GMP’s, vitamins and dry powder blending as well as continuous plant confectionary manufacture and conditioning experience with starch/mogul deposition.

Ability to develop, manage and prioritize tasks within assigned projects to bring new R&D products to a commercial manufacturing stage.

Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational, documentation, procedural and data analysis skills.
Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
