This position is located within the Occupational Health Department of the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii. The department is responsible for providing comprehensive occupational health services to all eligible beneficiaries in the Hawaii area. KEY REQUIREMENTS

You must be a US Citizen.

This position is a drug-testing designated position (TDP).

You must obtain and maintain a security clearance. DUTIES:
As a Health Technician, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing vision screenings, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and/or electrocardiograms.
  • Triaging patients as they arrive into the clinic.
  • Documenting pertinent data in patient medical records and/or on other required documents.
  • Recognizing impending emergencies such as heart attacks, seizures, hyperventilation, anaphylactic shock, and/or pulmonary distress.
  • Evaluating patients for referral to nurse and/or physician. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following qualification requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

GS-05: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-04) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector taking vital signs from patients; recording patient medical history into records; and scheduling patient’s appointments.

Education may be substituted at the GS-05 level: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly related to this position OR has a combination of post high school education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience.

GS-06: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector maintaining medical records; entering patients information into an automated system; checking patients in or out using an automated system; and assisting medical staff with routine diagnostics or emergency treatment.

Education may be substituted at the GS-06 level: Successfully completed 9 semester hours of graduate education in a field OR one full year of graduate education or an internship directly related to the work of this position OR has a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience.

GS-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06) in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector utilizing specialized medical equipment to perform screening tests such as: electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, hearing tests, and/or vision screens; recognizing impending emergencies such as heart attacks, seizures, hyperventilation, anaphylactic shock, and/or pulmonary distress; and maintaining and/or updating patient medical records.

Education may be substituted at the GS-07 level: Successfully completed one year of graduate education in a field directly related to this position OR has a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS:
The work involves walking, standing, sitting, and providing necessary patient assistance. This may include light lifting (under 15 pounds).

The work environment is predominantly in a clinic or office setting, but the incumbent must be able to go on-site to evaluate the work environment of various employees.

There is potential for exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards. Appropriate protective equipment and/or clothing is required.

A security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal. If you possess a security clearance, please indicate the level and termination date in your resume.
