The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Sociology - Social & Criminal Justice to begin August, 2013. The department maintains a Sociology Major with a Social & Criminal Justice Concentration; the Concentration has a twenty-five year history and is the department's largest program. Our Concentration emphasizes a critical orientation to the study of inequality, crime, and criminal justice. We are interested in candidates whose research and teaching demonstrate a critical perspective and whose areas of specialization include at least two of the following: comparative/international criminal justice, sociology of law and social control, community/alternative sanctions, and critical criminology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach in his/her specialty area and will also be expected to teach core and elective courses in the Concentration (e.g., Criminology, Police and Community Relations, Sociology of Law). This position includes a teaching load of three courses per semester, with a one course reduction during the first year.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice or a related field; ABD's with a completion date of no later than August, 2013 will be considered.
