The Division of Translational Informatics, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Research Software Engineer. Under general supervision, the successful candiate will design and develop research software for advanced analytics based on machine learning, data mining and predictive modeling paradigms to make sense of large and complex biomedical and healthcare datasets. The tasks include implementation and maintenance of complex data mining, machine learning and causal discovery algorithms, documenting them clearly, testing them on simulated and real-world datasets and generating experimental results and incorporate the implemented algorithms in a robust research software package for dissemination. The position also requires assistance with writing manuscripts for publication and preparing presentations for seminars and conferences. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Master's degree in a directly related Engineering field; at least 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
A Masters degree in Computer Science or a closely related field such as Electrical Engineering or Applied Mathematics is required. Documented ability to program in MATLAB and C/C++ is required. Experience with Java, Perl/Python and R/S+ would be highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to create manuscripts for publication and prepare technical presentations for seminars/conferences. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work on different projects simultaneously with enthusiasm and creativity. Interest in working in an academic research setting.
