We are a new, fast-growing website focused on publishing content related to environmental conservation, plant-based health/nutrition, animal rights and vegan living. We are building a team and are seeking an Editor-in-Chief to manage day-to-day editorial strategy and operations.
We are a pre-funded start-up and therefore this is an equity-only position until we receive financing. This role is for someone who is excited about taking on a leadership position and working with great people, driven by great causes, within a creative, fast-paced and fun work environment. The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit and endless energy for bringing about social change by spreading good ideas via helpful, insightful, relevant and engaging content for a passionate and targeted audience.
Play a lead role in developing and implementing a long-term content strategy that resonates powerfully with consumers, advertisers, and the media.
Plan the editorial calendar/strategy for various content categories and work on new media projects and tools to increase audience retention and engagement.
Streamline content submission process and grow the roster of expert contributors to increase breadth and depth of content.
Liaison with over 200+ contributors and develop, pitch and select ideas for articles on most relevant topics, showcasing specific/seasonal themes and concepts.
Recruit and manage a team of highly creative/smart volunteers to help in various tasks related to social media, PR, marketing, SEO, research, writing, editing, photos/graphics, etc.
Develop and execute a social media strategy to promote our brand and content.
Monitor the content to keep the site current, ensuring prompt elimination of any technical or content errors.
Develop new franchises, including video, slideshows and other types of content to drive traffic and user engagement
Analyze traffic reports and leveraging metrics to optimize the site via SEO, social media, etc.
Work with potential partners interested in sponsored posts, advertorials and co-branded channels.
Work closely with ad sales on brand positioning, franchise programs, digital strategies, and other new business initiatives
3+ years of relevant experience.
Working knowledge of industry-standard metrics, traffic and revenue flow across the Internet.
Working knowledge of current SEO best practices, standard tools of digital publishing, including blogging platforms, content-management systems, photo and video software, including basic HTML.
Demonstrated success in increasing traffic via content distribution/syndication/licensing and working with developers on new media projects to grow web traffic and social media presence.
Experience working with sales and marketing departments to come up with innovative ideas that drive business.
Ability to manage a team of writers, multitask effectively and operate under deadline pressure.
Masters preferred. Or a killer resume.
Potential to earn commission on revenue-generating deals sought by candidate.
