Expedites the admission process for assigned county based on established Medical Department standards of care per population (e.g. adult, acute, intermediate, geriopsych, forensic, MI/MR, SAMI..) served: conduct admission psychiatric evaluation, preliminary assessment, & tentative diagnosis, prescribe initial treatment & management, document patient visit & disposition, disburse pertinent patient literature (e.g., Clients Rights pamphlet..), inform patient of prescribed medication risks, side effects, & benefits, accurately complete admission criteria records & forms (e.g., DMH-Med R-1004, voluntary admission application, initial individual treatment plan.) requiring signature. “Summit Behavioral Healthcare recognizes patient safety as a core value. Attending psychiatrist for assigned county: conducts psychotherapy & counseling & specialized psychiatric care as privileged (e.g., hypnotherapy..), evaluate, examine, & order diagnostic & medical tests, prescribe medication & diet tailored to identified needs; determine appropriateness of inpatient stay based upon criteria established under Ohio Revised Code 5122 et seq., conduct patient rounds, participates (e.g., attends team meetings, consults with treatment team members, completes documentation requirements..) in interdisciplinary treatment planning process, conduct individual, group & family therapy according to training & privilege levels, evaluate need for restraint (e.g. seclusion, physical, chemical..) in psychiatric emergencies, complete & document Medicare Part B services, prepare, write or dictate for transcription required records & documents (e.g., psychiatric, medical & status evaluations, discharge summaries, narratives..) within time frames mandated by hospital policy, write progress notes, provide written substantiated diagnosis & designation for Axis I through IV of DSM I; provides whole house attending psychiatric duties &/or additional unit coverage as needed.
Perform related psychiatric duties: provide education & training to treatment team members & students in clinical training programs; as requested by Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) participates in research, program evaluation, & quality assurance monitoring; provide expert testimony in Municipal, Common Pleas & Probate Courts as required by law; conduct & participate in lectures & seminars related to mental disorders; act as designee of CCO when directed; assist psychiatrists assigned to other counties on an as needed basis., participate on assigned hospital committees, quality improvement teams, complete other assignments as designated by CCO.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certificate to practice medicine per Section 4731.13 of Revised Code; satisfactory completion of residency training program in psychiatry, as approved by the residency review committee of the American Medical Association, the committee on post-graduate education of the American Osteopathic Association or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology & Psychiatry or has been recognized as a psychiatrist by the Ohio State Medical Association or the Ohio Osteopathic Association on the basis of formal training & 5 or more yrs. of medical practice limited to psychiatry per Section 5122.01(E) of Revised Code.
Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of medicine; psychology; sociology; anatomy; physiology. Skill in administering medication. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals; deal with many variables & determine specific course of action; handle sensitive contacts with persons under medical care.
