Business Unit Overview
ComEd and its nearly 6,000 employees are responsible for maintaining more than 78,000 miles of power lines that make up the electric transmission and distribution system in Northern Illinois. ComEd, headquartered in Chicago, serves approximately 70 percent of Illinois' population - about 9 million people - in a service territory that spans 11,400 square miles. Locations in Northern Illinois including Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Ensure reliability of utility company operations by creating work packages for repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment modifications. Develop work plans that ensure that work force operates in a safe and efficient manner by (1) determining applicable utility company policies, programs and processes; (2) identifying relevant codes and standards; and (3) incorporating industry and operational ¿lesson learned¿ experiences.Specific to Field Operations
Responsible for optimizing the practices, policies, procedures and programs to operate the electric distribution system in a safe, reliable and efficient manner with the welfare of employees, customers, the public and shareholders in mind.
Plans and coordinates the work accomplished for craft union personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of company electric facilities and equipment
Coordinates work in a manner that ensures the safe, efficient, economical and timely completion of work with high regard for customer satisfaction in accordance with strategic initiatives.
Recommend and execute strategies for completing annual programmatic maintenance.
Ensure work is identified to proper equipment in company software applications.

Responsible for prioritizing and scheduling field orders to Field and Meter Services Energy Technicians for completion of electric meter work to ensure internal and external customer expectations are met. Work planners provide support for Energy Technicians regarding scheduled assignments through daily tailgate meetings, Mobile Dispatch terminals and/or cell phones. Responsible for managing emergent field orders with high priority and sense of urgency. Responsible for proactively monitoring daily and weekly reports to ensure all Service Level Agreements are achieved. Responsible for daily reporting of Energy Technician availability. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance to achieve strategic initiatives. Responsible for submitting field order requests as requested by Energy Technicians.Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
-Provide direction to the Maintenance Departments for corrective maintenance repairs, predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance and the execution of modifications and projects. Determine procedures, drawings, equipment, estimated time, materials and specialized labor required to perform planned work packages. Formulate and document appropriate plans for maintenance work in tailored work packages and instructions after consulting with company specialists and reviewing requirements that you determine are necessary.
-Conduct field walk downs, when appropriate, to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance, modification and project activities. The walk down serves as a method for refining and improving the work package process. Interface and collaborate with Work Management, Supply Management, TSO, OCC and Engineering to identify and resolve work package issues.
-Facilitate package preparation by developing and/or submitting SR/CRs, Contract requisitions, project ID approvals, line locating, and other requests. Select and purchase, or make procurement recommendations, for all materials needed for work package completion.
-Develop and verify work instructions and requested zones of protection, to ensure adequacy and compliance with all applicable utility company procedures and governmental regulations. (i.e. clearance, Ready to Start, Pre-energization, OSHA, lockout/tagout etc.) Approve and review all required work packages to ensure safety, high quality and detail.
-Develop, revise, and review maintenance procedures to facilitate and enhance work package development and maintenance direction on an ongoing basis to improve safety and quality.
-Provide project management of other system planners or contractors to develop detailed elements of overall package preparationSpecific to Field Operations
-Plans and coordinates the work accomplished for craft employees engaged in the execution of scheduled and emergent work activities, to assure the highest levels of customer services, Operations productivity, and maintenance crew utilization to achieve Exelon¿s safety, reliability and performance goals.
-Schedule and coordinate work within departmental budgets. Plan work activities directed at achievement of business plans and business unit objectives.
-Recommend and execute strategies for completing annual programmatic maintenance and improving maintenance completion within Operations
-Ensure work is identified to proper equipment in company software applications. Updates KPI software to track work completion.
Specific to Customer Field and Meter Services
-Schedule field orders daily prior to the start of the Energy Technicians shift according to the master work plan. Monitor daily and weekly reports to ensure field orders are completed within established Service Level Agreements. Contact external customers for appointments when necessary.
-Maintain contact with Energy Technicians throughout the day regarding daily assignments. Investigate accounts for validation of requests to assist with providing direction to technicians and to assist the back office. Assist with emergent issues in the field and communicate any safety concerns / incidents to the management team.
-Perform ad-hoc report analysis. Monitor, analyze and provide updates on special initiatives to management team. Complete daily check in sheets to report Energy Technician availability. Verify attendance in Mobile Dispatch.
-Monitor emergency and pending field orders throughout the day. Respond to internal and external customer special requests. Follow up on open field orders.
-Bachelor¿s degree in Business or Engineering AND 2 - 5 years experience in the craft or discipline in which he/she will develop planned work packages or schedule field orders, or in lieu of Bachelor¿s degree, a minimum of 6 ¿ 9 years experience in craft or discipline in which he/she will develop planned work packages or schedule field orders.
-Strong organizational, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
-Good computer skills.
-Ability to adapt to new or changing conditions.
-Valid driver¿s license or ability to obtain. Preferred:
-Two or four year technical degree
-Successful completion of core supervisory / management training and development programs
