Responsibilities Position Overview A Borders Superstore Manager provides leadership and support our company vision and mission in his or her area of responsibility. Outstanding leadership, communication and the ability to drive results are essential for top performers in this role. Managers must also be a model for providing excellent customer service to both employees and our customers who shop in our stores. Borders Superstore Managers report to the General Manager and support him or her in achieving store and company objectives. Key Manager Responsibilities: · Consistently drive sales/profitability and maintain an environment where customers enjoy a rich shopping experience. · Use financial and analytical management tools to ensure that sales, profitability and productivity goals are met. · Analyze data and information. Develop and implement action plans to address trends and opportunities. · Ensure internal and external customer service standards are consistently met. · Lead a team who consistently executes all standards and initiatives. · Provide leadership by fostering a sense of teamwork. · Promote an environment where spirited, enthusiastic and self-motivated people want to work. · Cultivate a store environment where diversity is valued and embraced in all facets of the business. · Monitor productivity and performance of hourly staff and/or assigned teams and address performance issues as appropriate. · Maintain open and effective lines of communication. · Maintain confidential business and employee information. · Proactively recruit, select and retain top talent. · Support and maintain company business standards and compliance of company policy and procedures. · Ensure that administrative functions are carried out quickly and efficiently. · Ensure physical plant and safety standards of the store are met. · Participate in other tasks as necessary to support the team. Additional Sales Manager Responsibilities: · Supervise job performance of Merchandising Supervisors and Sellers, and indirectly supervises entire store staff. · Oversee and communicate programs, standards goals and results such as: Borders Rewards program, Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI), Average Dollar per Transaction and controllable expenses. · Create and maintain partnerships in community for sales generation and outreach to drive store events. · Oversee corporate sales and store execution of corporation’s orders relating to events. · Hold staff accountable for staff training and development. · Manage all aspects of the merchandising process/displays in store. · Ensure secure access to all areas of the store, which may include master keyholder responsibilities. · Complete cash reconciliation and back office administrative duties. Qualifications Qualifications: · Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, preferred. · At least 2-3 years of experience managing in a medium to large or multi-unit retail environment with at least 1 million in volume, preferred. · Ability to work rotating shifts which include varying days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. · Ability and desire to move to positions of increased responsibility. · Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to set realistic but challenging goals and establish performance standards. · A consistent track record of meeting sales, profitability, customer service and operations objectives · Proven ability to influence others, instill accountability and achieve results. · Ability to think creatively and take calculated risks that benefit the organization. · Ability to take a proactive approach to problem solving. · Strong business acumen. · Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on building partnerships, managing conflict and leading others through change. · Demonstrated ability to find, select and develop top talent An appreciation and respect for the diversity of all individuals in the workplace. · Effective written and verbal communication skills.
