The Technical Training Supervisor manages the following technical training programs:

Engineering Support Personnel and Supervisor
Start-up Personnel and Supervisor
Chemistry Personnel and Supervisor
Health Physics Personnel and Supervisor
Emergency Preparedness
General Employee Training
Management Training

Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. The two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors being built at Plant Vogtle, scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2016 and 2017, will require more than 850 personnel to safely and reliably operate. When completed, Plant Vogtle will be the largest nuclear facility in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Analysis

Supervising needs, job, and task analysis of site training programs
Supervising gap analysis of INPO Guideline Curriculum
Coordinating with other APOG utilities to maintain common curricula
Adaptation of digital engineering to the existing guidance of ACAD 98-004

Design

Supervising design of training objectives
Supervising design of training for applicable training settings
Equipping training labs for conduct of skills training
Designing a mentoring program for qualification of engineers
Developing the overall training plan
Reviewing the design and monitoring construction of the Technical Support Center including interfaces with plant simulators
Coordinating curricula with Augusta Technical College's Nuclear Engineering Technology (NET) Program
Reviewing laboratory facility design and construction
Equipping training laboratories within departmental budgets

Development

Supervising lesson material development
Documenting accreditation applications
Approving training materials

Implementation of Training

Coordinating training with line management
Coordinating technical training review committees
Assigning instructors to fill gaps in Augusta Technical College's Nuclear NET program
Upholding occupational safety standards throughout assigned training spaces
Coordinating emergency preparedness drills

Assigning instructors for:
Classroom training
Lab training
Emergency drill monitoring

Evaluation

Scheduling management observations of training
Determining training program effectiveness
Conducting assessments, research, and evaluations
Corrective Action Program (CAP) activities, deadline management

Personnel

Managing technical instructional staff
Managing administrative support staff
Managing candidates engaged in initial training programs
Coordinating qualification and quality checks of supplemental technical personnel assigned to Vogtle 3&4

Regulatory

Ensuring Health Physics training meets NRC requirements for radiation protection
Ensuring General Employee Training meets NRC requirements including:

Security Access Control
Fitness for Duty
Radiation Worker
Respiratory Protection

Ensuring the following non-accredited programs meet NRC commitments per NEI 06-13A

Emergency planning
Management

Accreditation

Managing accreditation self evaluation process
Coordinating accreditation visits with INPO
Participating as a peer in industry self assessments and INPO accreditation teams

General

Managing the technical training budgets
Supporting the line organization as requested during temporary outage assignments
Managing project workload
Managing emergency plan training for technical personnel
Managing contractor technical training for the following supplemental and outage support personnel:

Health Physics
Engineering
Quality Control

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field strongly desired

Background/Experience Requirements

A total of four (4) years of nuclear power plant experience
Two (2) years nuclear power plant training experience preferred

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of plant procedures and regulations
Knowledge of nuclear plant systems and processes
