--Performs accurate part inspections, as well as any other inspections required by the print/job sheet, the department supervisor, the quality assurance manager or a manufacturing manager using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges to measure work piece for conformation to specifications

--Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments

--Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup, or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences

--Produces parts at a rate which meets or exceeds accepted production standards

--Identifies (including nonconforming dimensions) and separates all nonconforming parts

--Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, and to obtain approval to continue production

--Lift work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists

--Maintain machines, and remove and replace broken or worn machine tools, using hand tools

--Attaches and positions fixture and chuck jaws to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions, using clamps, bolts, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments, such as rule and calipers

--Set up and operates numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications

--Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified, using hand tools, or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines

--Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece;

--Loads control media in machine control console or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database

--Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation

--Set up and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal work pieces

--Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration

--Monitor machine operation and control panel displays, and compare readings to specifications in order to detect malfunctions

--Clean machines, tooling, and parts, using solvents or solutions and rags

--Identifies dull or worn tooling/inserts and replaces when required.
