Performs routine clerical and public contact work involving entering accurate program registration data into computer, processing customer inquiries, handling general office duties, obtaining and dispensing accurate information concerning departmental programs. Does related work as required. Specific duties may vary depending upon assignment. The person in this job will work 12-15 hours per week.

Note: Expected hiring rate is $8.75 - $9.40 per hour (depending on qualifications).

Work is performed under regular supervision following regularly established routines subject to more general instructions. Work requires public contact.

Typical Tasks:

Serves to greet the public, answers telephones, receives citizen complaints and inquiries, and requests for services and provides department information and materials to citizens, or refersthem tothe appropriate person.

Operates standard office machines, including copy machine and computer; computer work may be extensive.

Coordinates information about classes with instructors including enrollment and class status.

Follows through on class cancellations including calling students, and updating supervisory staff.

Maintains customer files.

Assists with registration/POS data entry into CLASS as requested.

Enforces Town of Cary policies.

Performs basic accounting for money received through the cash registers, prepares accurate deposits within established deadlines.

Opens or closes and secures center as assigned.

Follows up with supervisor with oral and written reports.

Provides routine information on departmental policies, procedures and services.

Prepares mailings as needed.

Handles special projects.

Assists patrons when seeking rental space at the arts center.
Assists with ticket sales and nightly box office deposit.

Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; general knowledge of cash collection procedures; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department; ability to maintain filing systems.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Secondary education or equivalent with general clerical and public contact experience. Must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years of age.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
