This is a Journey Level Technician position located in the Lexington Construction Office and will serve as a Project inspector on Roadway and Structure projects. An employee in this position will function as a lead project inspector conducting independent, complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications. They may also supervise lower level technicians performing routine to moderately complex inspections. This employee will be responsible for reviewing NPDES records, keeping daily diaries on project operations, filling out various material reports, documenting pay records, compiling monthly pay estimates, and aiding in the compilation of final estimates. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures. Possess general mathematical skills along with the ability to perform independent, complex inspections, maintain detailed records, and perform sampling and testing in accordance with established guidelines. Establish positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and public. Must be able to work in an outside environment including exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, lifting heavy objects, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate's degree in the assigned discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
