Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for driving current and future manufacturing performance in the areas of Safety, Productivity, Cost, Quality, Delivery and Morale using TPM operating framework. This includes managing the shift crew and manufacturing activities as well as working individually and on teams to identify areas of opportunity to cause beneficial change

Position Responsibilities (Expected Work)

Managing manufacturing activities during the designated shift by leading and motivating shift employees in all areas including safety, efficiency, loss management, quality, and continuous improvement (TPM).

Efficiencies/outputs/product priorities – The supervisor will be responsible for reporting of production quantities. This task includes all pertinent data relating to the operation of the production floor.

Although these duties may be assigned, as needed, ultimately the supervisor is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of data. Daily the supervisor will review the production schedule, review the shift change log and confer with scheduling to determine any priority changes in production and to assess any potential obstacles to the successful completion of the schedule.

Driving UL SHEQ culture by protecting employee’s health and safety, ensuring compliance of all regulatory and plant safety rules, meeting legislative requirements, providing instruction in regard to safety procedures and supporting plant SHEQ initiatives as required (DuPont Program, GMP, Hygiene, 5S,etc.)

Accountable for the productivity of the site during off-shifts. This requires contacting appropriate resources for issue resolution, providing alternative duties in the event of breakdown or material shortage, monitoring general performance and behavior of employees, and adjusting crewing or call in replacements as necessary.

This requires interfacing with Facilities Support, Material Planning, Quality Support, Warehouse and other department supervisors to ensure efficient operation to meet plant goals.

Quality - The supervisor will review quality standards with employees and provide counseling, assessment and training where necessary. The supervisor will provide Quality Services with communication of any suspect or hold items. Additionally, the supervisor will provide purchasing with completed Defective Material Reports (DMR) and insure the continuity of the storage and isolation of these materials.

Team Coordinator (TC) and Maintenance Leader (ML) development/follow-up – Supervisors will work closely with TC’s/ML’s and provide clear direction for them to carry out the duties of their job. Supervisors will provide feedback to these shift leaders in order to improve the efficient operation of the shift including the assignment of labor, completion of data collection activities and the management of daily operations. The incumbent will ideally develop a career path and progression plan for their shift hourly leads in these roles.

Facilitating required training programs to employees. (SHE, TPM, QA, etc.)
Utilizing Kronos Timekeeping System to maintain weekly record of hours worked, along with explanation of overtime hours worked and ensures hours worked, vacation, personal hours, absences, etc. are correctly documented so employees are paid accurately.

Regularly cascading/communicating site targets and goals from the Leadership Team to shift crews, consistently and accurately.

Employee development – The supervisor should provide consistent and regular feedback to their employees pertaining to job performance, attendance and compliance with company policies and rules. Supervisors must be objective and provide guidance for aiding the employee in improving areas which are below standards. Supervisors will have an active role in employee relations programs on their shifts and drive positive employee relations through various reward and recognition programs.

Participating in the development of the annual site manufacturing budget and controlling fixed and variable cost expenditures.

Leading Positive employee relations on designated team/shift aligned to to site Positive Employee Relations Masterplan including strong execution of Reward and Recognition activies, Communication Improvements, Training Opportunities and consistent application of Policies and guidelines.

In addition, the incumbent will support Unilever's ''open door policy'' and work collaboratively with hourly employees to resolve employee concerns at the factory floor level.

Promoting and maintaining a safety oriented culture.
Other duties may be assigned.

Challenges

Driving the Continuous Improvement agenda using TPM as the operating framework. This involves a shift in behavior and a new way of work.

Managing the operational costs of assigned shift including controlling overtime, absenteeism, production output among others to ensure a cost competitive operation
Optimizing the use and interactions with third parties such as Peoplelink, JCI, Dupont, ManPower and others to deliver the business agenda.

Upgrading of employee population skills and competencies. This will require to facilitate through TPM the correct skills and competencies to employees to drive the continuous improvement agenda. This also will require managing performance issues interacting with management and legal to raise employee performance to accepted levels.

Scope

Participation in the preparation and control of assigned budget
Utilization of Peoplelink tools in daily work (LMS, Vurv, EAF, etc.)
Utilization of applicable systems to perform daily tasks as required (ARIBA, Time and Attendance, UTEMS, etc).

Experience

1-5 years supervisory experience within manufacturing.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge/ Education
BBA or BS degree from a recognized institution; Technical discipline such as engineering/food science/industrial mgmt preferred.

Experience - Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment required. Food manufacturing and team supervision leadership experience preferred.

Skills/ Specific Training- TPM, SHE, GMPs and other plant specific trainings; Proficient in the use of PCs

Competencies & Abilities

Supervisory - Ability to lead and motivate, delegation skills, knowledge of process and processing equipment and a mechanical aptitude.

Problem Solving - Be able to identify symptoms to problems and describe them clearly. Use systematic approach to find the root causes of problems. Be open to all possibilities, considering all alternatives, and weigh short/long term costs versus the benefits from derived solutions.

Communications - Excellent oral, written communication and effective interpersonal skills; and be able to communicate business results, changes and the relationship between individuals, their job, and the company.

Leadership - Be pro-active and strive to develop the best practices and action plans to deal with work demands. Build a culture geared toward common goals and encourage the development of teams. Focus on team contributions, without forgetting the importance of individual contribution. Improve the business through motivating the participation of employees.
