The Sr. Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance/support of ARRIS’ Unix- and Linux-based enterprise infrastructure to ensure overall availability and reliability. Oversees control and change management, deployment execution and maintains a broad understanding of IT. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: management and support of VMware virtualized environments; performance monitoring & analysis; network configuration; project management; troubleshooting; planning and forecasting. This position will also assist in the management and support of ARRIS’ Enterprise Storage environments.
Implement, manage and maintain ARRIS' Unix- and Linux-based enterprise infrastructure supporting critical business systems.
Implement, manage and maintain storage solutions (i.e. SAN & NAS).
Identifies and investigates complex system malfunctions: isolates causes of errors due to servers, desktops/laptops, storage, network, cabling, etc; works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
Monitors usage, capacity and performance of systems; liaises with users and vendors to address problems and changes in requirements.
Maintains system documentation including licensing, hardware and software inventory, security data, user manuals, Visio-style layouts, etc.
Plans and implements upgrades to IT systems; installs and configures hardware and software.
Ensures systems are properly backed-up; defines and implements backup procedures for disaster recovery purposes.
Provides technical guidance and direction to less experienced staff.
Exercise effective leadership and professionalism at all times.
Perform other/additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities - Required
Formal Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the field.
Formal Training: Linux (UNIX) Administration; Bash/ksh/Perl Scripting; VMware vSphere Administration
Experience (type & duration): Red Hat Linux Administration (7 years); Bash/ksh/Perl Scripting (5 years); VMware vSphere (3 years)
Skills: Good team player who is customer-service oriented; works well any time of the day; well organized; strong oral and written communication skill; able to develop project plans and manage accordingly; able to work with a culturally diverse user-base.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities - Preferred
Formal Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science
Formal Training: Advanced-level training in Red Hat Linux Administration; VMware vSphere Adminstration; NetApp Data ONTAP Administration.
Experience (type & duration): 10+ years administering Red Hat Linux and/or HP-UX/Solaris/AIX in a mission-critical environment; 7+ years scripting (Bash/ksh/Perl); 5+ years managing VMware ESX/ESXi or vSphere environments ; 3+ years managing NAS/SAN storage (NetApp preferred); a strong working knowledge of Windows Server administration including AD.
