Consistent with the Christian mission and Hope for Life Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Coordinator of MemberYFit, the MemberYFit Associate will assist the member service team in the overall delivery of excellent customer service to all members and guests of the branch. The MemberYFit Associate will be responsible for the sale of memberships, responding to member and guest needs, and maintaining cleanliness and organization at the Membership Desk and Wellness Facility.
Education / Experience Required:
Minimum 18 years of age
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous customer service experience preferred
Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN application for employment, new hire packet and Praesidium Child Abuse Detection / Prevention training
Before first shift: CEO parts 1 and 2
Within 30 days of hire: Unity training
Within 60 day of hire: Healthy Lifestyle Principles; Foundations of Strength & Conditioning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
This position requires an individual with excellent customer service, leadership, sales and service, problem solving, and human relation skills. He/she must be self-directed with excellent computer skills and strong written and oral communication skills. He/she must have the ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds while effectively supporting and communicating the YMCA character values and mission. . S/he should also have the ability to conduct activities related to fitness, which include the training of both staff and members on fitness techniques and exercise equipment.
Physical Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.

Relate to the public, both on phone and in person, providing excellent service to members, guests, and participants.
Handle the sale of all programs, classes, memberships, and retail items.
Process membership and registration paperwork accurately and input information into the computer in a timely manner.
Remain knowledgeable in all programs, class schedules, and membership information and keep adequate supplies of information available.
Understand and enforce all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
Operate card maker system, Uii, digital camera, cash register, fax machine, copier, telephone system, and perform routine filing.
Provide facility tours to new and prospective members.
Monitor the locker room every ½ hour and report cleaning issues.
Answer incoming calls to the branch and record reservations accurately.
Handle and resolve membership complaints; inform supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
Communicate and enforce policies and guidelines for the equipment area.
Conduct wellness evaluation and program recommendations for all new members.
Monitor Wellness Center; communicate with members offering suggestion to enhance member workouts, correction of bad form, and providing spots; provide equipment and strength training orientations.
Schedule follow-up appointments with members to ensure they are getting the most out of their YMCA membership.
Maintain a safe, clean and functional exercise equipment area.
Document any accidents/injuries/incidents.
Record daily use statistics.
Work closely with Wellness Coordinator and Group Fitness Coordinator to provide a premier member experience.
Offer creative ideas and changes to the Wellness Coordinator to constantly monitor and improve the YMCA Wellness program.
Attend all required training and meetings; keep all certifications current.
Assist with special events.
