Description

Our Cargill Salt business produces, packages and ships salt for a wide range of market segments: Agricultural, Food, Water conditioning, Industrial, Chemical and packaged ice control.

We operate more than 20 manufacturing, processing and warehousing locations that make salt from three major production methods: Mechanical evaporation at facilities in the U.S. in California, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, New York and Ohio; Solar evaporation and harvesting from ponds in California, Oklahoma, Utah, Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles, and Los Olivitos, Venezuela; Rock salt mining from underground mines in Louisiana, New York and Ohio.

Cargill Salt services a variety of customers ranging from home improvement, hardware, grocery, and convenience store retailers, to food makers/processors, water conditioning dealers, and foodservice and general wholesale distribution. We make more than 1,000 different salt products and package sizes. In addition, we market national and regional brands, including Diamond Crystal® branded household consumer food and water softener salt products, Champions Choice® branded agricultural products for animal feeding, as well as Cargill® and Alberger® branded specialty salt products for food manufacturing customers.

Position Overview:
Cargill Salt is seeking a Senior EHS professional for its Akron, OH plant. This role will provide EHS resources and leadership for plant operations, employees, and the community for education, skill enhancement, and the development of sustainable processes to manage risk, enrich the community, and to ensure compliance with internal as well as external regulatory requirements and initiatives as relates to environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment.

This position will lead the environmental activities and provide strategic leadership for safety activities at the Akron facility and interact with professionals at other locations.

Principal Accountabilities:
25% - Collaborate with plant operations and fellow EHS personnel to support and promote environmental initiatives, improve awareness and understanding, and be accountable for measuring and ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory laws and permit requirements and best practices. Generate reports and documentation as necessary to ensure environmental compliance with regulatory record keeping requirements standards for regulators or internal requirements. Take a leadership role in regulatory negotiations and community relations.

20% - Manage environmental recordkeeping requirements and prepare and organize EHS files for audits. Work collaboratively with plant operations to develop sustainable environmental programs and processes. Manage change to effectively implement strategies and tactics identified in reviews, audits, permit processes, corporate initiatives, etc. as relates to EHS.

20% - Provide a visible EHS leadership presence on the plant floor. Participate in plant processes including inspections, plant teams, weekend call rotation, supporting operations personnel when necessary, permit generation, training sessions, community enrichment events, etc.

20% - Successfully manage projects using structured approaches including collaboration with stakeholders, seeking innovative solutions, managing interfaces, proactive and effective change management, and project management tools.

10% - Provide a broad perspective and collaborate with others for the development and communication of safety and environmental goals and standards for the plant. Perform risk assessments and lead/ collaborate in development of strategies and tactics to accomplish goals and reduce risk. Develop, plan, and track training sessions, inspections, and audits. Follow-up and assure completion of action items and gap closure

5% - Develop and nurture EHS talent, skills, and leadership within plant operations

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences or related field

Minimum 5 years of environmental experience in a manufacturing environment including the successful implementation of EHS management systems

Demonstrated extensive knowledge with Clean Air Act provisions including Title V reporting, NSR, PSD, NSPS

Demonstrated understanding of NPDES, SPCC and waste disposal requirements

Effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) and listening skills

Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

Demonstrated ability to be a compelling and authentic communicator to all levels of the organization

Ability to produce results through leadership, and develop trust and respect with all employees

Preferred:
Professional certifications such as CHMM, CSP, PE, QEP, or advanced degree

Industrial EHS experience in Salt, food, or chemical production

Management of Title V permitting, reporting, and related compliance

Management of NSPS 000 affected facilities
