We are seeking an experienced Performance Engineer to support our client near Creve Coeur, Missouri. This is a 12 month, salaried position, with a possible 12 month extension.

Performance Engineer


The Performance Engineer is accountable for establishing metrics, best practices, and SLA’s around performance and availability, planning and implementing required capacity, and establishing business continuity and disaster recovery plans to meet the needs of our client’s research pipeline. In this role the Performance Engineer will work across teams in a matrix organization to ensure highly available and performing cutting edge applications to meet research needs of a top ten innovative agricultural company.

  • Optimize environment providing reliability and availability with capacity to meet business requirements

  • Best practices utilized throughout development process to ensure reliable and performing applications

  • Business continuity and disaster recovery plans in place, reviewed and tested to maintain the business during interruptions in system availability

Essential Duties:
  • Establishment of performance and availability metrics and methods for collecting, analyzing and reporting

  • Establishment of performance best practices for data and application development

  • Environment optimization including implementing industry best practices, tuning, and capacity management

  • Capacity forecasting and development of LRP to meet capacity needs

  • Establishment of SLA’s for performance and availability

  • Provide recommendations to meet business continuity objectives and coordinate infrastructure changes to meet expectations

  • Establishment of business continuity and resource continuity plans with the business

  • Coordination of annual reviews and testing of business continuity and resource continuity plans

  • Establishment of performance and availability score cards for effective communication with development teams and leadership

Required Skills:
  • BA/BS in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field; or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years experience in 2nd level support for Web administration

  • Experience in software development utilizing Java, Oracle/SQL and XML

  • Experience with Weblogic and Apache web servers

  • Experience with Java performance tuning

  • Experience with Oracle Service Bus

  • Experience working with or administering Apache Tomcat

  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies

  • Capacity forecasting

  • Understanding of relational database models.

  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and manage personal work and small projects.

  • Ability to influence organizational change to adopt standards and best practices

  • Strong problem solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Possess ability to collaborate effectively with a wide array of people

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Websphere

  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) frameworks

  • Familiarity with SCRUM or Agile software development methodologies.

  • Work and/or educational experience in an agricultural, biotechnology, or life sciences industry

Positions are budgeted for one year with the option to extend.
