JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Vice President of Operations Process Improvement (Lean Transformation) will champion and lead all enterprise Lean activities and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout Intermodal Operations. The AVP will oversee all aspects of Lean transformation including implementation, policies and training. In order to be successful the AVP will need to gain a detailed understanding of the processes, technology, and workflow currently used by the Intermodal Operations and drayage groups. The AVP will also work with key business leaders to understand strategy and longer term vision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Design a Lean program and build the underlying capabilities to drive operational excellence across the Intermodal organization.

Plan, develop, and train personnel in Lean and continuous improvement techniques and practices.

Ensure sustained and fast paced adoption of Lean thinking.

Provide direction and guidance in all areas of Lean methodology and act as a key driver of change.

Promote, educate and instill a culture of waste identification and elimination throughout the organization.

Work with Intermodal Operations and drayage groups to develop and implement process, technology, and workflow improvements.

Survey existing processes, technology, and workflow to identify opportunities to improve profitability, productivity, or service.

Suggest ways to standardize and improve business processes. This will include changing work flow and roles.

Work with the business groups and IT to identify automation opportunities

Address process gaps, operational problems and other opportunities through development of improvements:

Identify solution

Coordinate efforts and provide project management to implement a change in process or technologyCoordinate documentation, communication, and training efforts

Develop and distribute measures to assess the effectiveness of the improvement

Ongoing adjustment and refinement to insure achievement of objectives

Knowledge of business process and workflow tools that will help enable the successful implementation of process changes

Coordinate assessments of project value and feasibility through rigorous identification and assessment of project costs and business benefits

Review and edit requirements and specifications for proposed project solutions

Lead corporate level projects, interfacing with all functional and organizational levels

Establish metrics and design performance monitoring systems to provide senior management with quantifiable gauges of results and impact of Lean activities.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree, preferably MBA, from a leading institution. A degree in Operations Management or related field or equivalent is preferred.

A minimum of 10-15 years experience with a minimum of 7 years management experience with at least 5 years experience as an organization's dedicated Lean/Six Sigma leader.

Experience, either in a focused transformational leadership role or as part of the senior operating team driving the change, with at least two major, successful transformational experiences where Lean was used as part of the catalyst and foundation for the change. The experience must have a demonstrated impact that translated to clear, bottom line performance results with step-function change.

Extensive Lean technical and facilitating skills. Must have the ability to train others in the technical application of tools as well as mentor colleagues on how to manage and lead in a Lean organization.

Effective communications to direct and motivate team and others. Ability to facilitate cross functional project teams.

Familiarity with products such as SharePoint, Visio, Savvion, Lombardi Blueprint or other process management and workflow automation tools

Ability to “multi-task", self-direct and manage deadlines

Strong attention to detail required

Ability to lead in a dynamic, fast paced, rapidly changing organization

Self-starter, enthusiastic, energized

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Flexibility to travel when required

Previous experience in the transportation and logistics preferred. IT Experience desirable.

Proficiency with all Microsoft Office tools
