Basic Functions: The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Sonographer is also responsible for assisting the Radiologist with invasive procedures. Minimum Qualifications: ARDMS registration or registry eligible (New Graduate Technologists must obtain certification within 1 year of graduation) Radiological Technologist, Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist or Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physics Successful completion of one year formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program /Ultrasound School -or- completion of Ultrasound School plus one-year work experience in Ultrasound under supervision of a Radiologist Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty/specialties as appropriate Preferred Qualifications: Current, active ARDMS registration Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physics Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty areas 2+ years of recent diagnostic ultrasound experience
