Data Innovations North America, the world’s largest and most successful clinical and blood laboratory Middleware Company, is currently seeking a Software Engineer. This person’s primary responsibilities are to design, modify, develop, write and implement software programming applications, some complex in nature. The Software Engineer is expected to work independently, under the general supervision and guidance of the Development Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review, modify, develop, write and implement software programming applications, some very complex in nature
  • Gather information, analyze and execute user requirements based on customer requests
  • Develop/enhance existing programs by identifying and analyzing areas for modification
  • Develop coding languages consistent with product needs and quality standards
  • Design, code and debug applications in various software languages
  • Active participant in software release cycle
  • Assist in monitoring and correcting software defects
  • Respond to customer/client requests as necessary and appropriately as they occur
  • Ensure internal documentation is complete, accurate and up-to-date, including documenting code consistently throughout the development process
  • Provide assistance to testers and support personnel as needed
  • Deliver presentations to customer or client audiences and professional peers
  • Identify ways to improve quality and efficiencies in the department
  • Train, mentor and serve as a resource to other members of the team and cross-departmental colleagues regarding software questions, some complex in nature
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Very familiar with all or a combination of C/C++, Java, C#.NET, Windows, Visual Basic, Cache
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Proven ability to successfully write code and test software applications
  • Ability to keep current in constantly evolving technical advances
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective ability to teach and instruct peers
  • Strong Communication skills (verbal and written) including presentation skills
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to follow DI’s policies and procedures and system usage practices
  • Meet location requirements based in South Burlington, Vermont

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field, such as software development and a minimum of 3 years applicable experience OR a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding, and computer use.

Preferred skills and experience:
In addition to the above requirements, the ideal employee/candidate will have experience with the following:

  • Experience with InterSystems Cache
  • Knowledge of the integration of laboratory information systems, analytical instrumentation and automation systems

Supervision Level
This person reports directly to the Development Manager, however they may lead and direct the work of others
