Duties and Responsibilities
Consult with IT Project Manager and business liaison to identify and analyze needs; attend fact-gathering sessions (when applicable), analyze problems for pieces of the application; solve problems with some assistance.
Design and Develop systems specifications based on business requirements and process flows.
Ensure that applications meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
Create, update, test, debug & provide support to enterprise operational and/or information systems including hands on development with 3 rd party software to support claims/underwriting/finance/actuarial department (s)
Unit test and troubleshoot QA and production issues with business rules
Provide support to project teams in defining and reviewing product and software requirements
Work on integration projects that involve Web-based applications, Web Services, XML and data integration
Work closely with system users to provide guidance in the identification and resolution of user problems and concerns
Work closely with the infrastructure group and drive application support requirements and issue resolution
Participate in code reviews, reviewing software changes
Maintain all system documentation
Requires occasional evening and/or weekend work for system patches/upgrades
On-call availability for production releases and issues.
Required Skills
Skills and Experience Desired
College degree in computer science/computer information systems or equivalent business experience.
5 –7 years of related experience in software development including a broad technical background with extensive integration experience
Certifications in one or more of the following: Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD), Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD), Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) is preferred.
Familiarity with XML, XSD, XSL
Advanced skills in some or all of the following: Java, JSP, J2EE, ASP, HTML, DHTML, C# or VB .NET, transact SQL, VBA, Reporting Services, and Crystal Reports.
Experience with relational databases, DBMS tools and multiple database management systems.
Experience designing and developing web services.
Experience with source control system such as SVN, SourceSafe, or CVS required
Experience working on large complex projects through the entire project life cycle from initiation through implementation.
Candidate must be experienced in engaging with internal business owners and customers.
Familiarity with insurance products, rules, methodologies and systems (claims, underwriting, finance & information) desirable
Exposure to release management and quality assurance processes a plus
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements.

Key Deliverables
Produce requirements and technical specifications for enhancement work and update defect tracking system for defect fixes.
Deliver code that meets all defined architecture standards to a predefined schedule.
Develop and participate in project planning.
