The Certified Surgical Technologist assists in the nursing care and preparation of cases and patients by performance of routine and delegated duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The incumbent performs duties related to case preparation and clean up, maintenance of supplies, assisting with transporting, and housekeeping duties. Duties: Support Responsibilities
Assists with specimen handling in accordance to unit policy and procedure.
Assists with circulating duties.
Assists with cleaning, stocking, and maintaining supplies and equipment.
Assists with transporting of patients.
Assists with patient care activities.
Prepares and sets up cases.
Facilitates the physician in having the appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies as the needs of patient care are met with maintaining the age specific practices.
Maintains the care of instruments per unit policy and procedure.
Maintains safety standards in the handling of sharps (i.e. blades, needles, sharp instruments).
Maintains awareness of items that require “counts”, and assists the circulating nurse with the count process. Qualifications:
Knowledge of practices, equipment and supplies needed for procedures.
Skill in operating job-related equipment.
Must be able to apply principles of sterile and aseptic technique.
Must be able to identify and provide for age-specific needs.
Ability to organize and anticipate the needs of the physician.
Minimum Position Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist course; successful completion of certification exam within one year of hire date.
CPR certification required.
