The Clayton County Board of Health seeks to fill a youth development specialist (YDS) position to support a community-wide effort to reduce teen pregnancies in Clayton County. This effort is funded by a US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health grant funded through 2015. The YDS will supervise the provision of health education services in accordance with the Teen Outreach Program (TOP) curriculum. The YDS will serve as a train-the-trainer for the TOP curriculum. The YDS will direct/supervise a team of part-time health educators responsible for providing educational sessions to youth in community settings (after school programs, Parks and Recreation Centers, community based organizations, faith-based organizations). The YDS will assist the Program Manager in executing the program’s workplan; will assist in collecting and analyzing program data and activities; and will work with CCBOH’s youth serving partner organizations in implementing TOP within their organizations.
Minimum Training & Experience: Completion of a master's degree in public health education AND One year of public health education experience at a level equivalent to a lead worker level OR Completion of a bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral or biological sciences or a directly related field AND Three years of experience in public health education, one of which was at a lead level OR One year of experience at the lower level or position equivalent.
Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications also possess knowledge and experience in the following:
•Experience providing health education services to youth
•Experience in coordinating various community outreach activities
•Ability to prioritize activities, manage time and complete assignments with minimal supervision
•Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
