Responsible for leading the tax compliance group in preparing the US federal, state and local income/franchise tax returns; developing and maintaining related record keeping and tax software systems. Responsible for leading Wrigley’s US Federal, State and local income tax audits.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES
The corporate tax activities are divided into three areas: Tax Planning, Tax Accounting, and Tax Systems & Compliance. The Senior Manager - Tax Systems & Compliance coordinates the development of computerized tax compliance systems and oversees the preparation and filing of all tax returns.
The Senior Manager - Tax Systems & Compliance is the direct interface with each local Wrigley CFO in US tax matters including FIN 48 exposures. The incumbent works to support the business operations by being an in-house tax expert. Further, the incumbent works extensively with the Mars Tax Group in facilitate the filing of the Mars US and State consolidated tax returns. The Senior Manager – Tax Systems and Compliance works with the Manager – Tax Accounting to ensure the accurate accounting for income taxes based on actual returns filed. In addition, the incumbent works with the Director – Tax Planning to ensure that tax planning initiatives are accurately and appropriately reflected in the Company’s tax returns.
The incumbent is responsible for Wrigley’s US Federal, State and Local tax audits including serving as lead contact point, responding to questions, formulating positions and proposing settlements.
The incumbent leads a team of six associates in the completion of Wrigley’s system and compliance work. Further, the Senior Manager – Tax Systems and Compliance, in conjunction with the Vice President and Treasurer is responsible for developing and executing developmental plans for each associate.
The incumbent leads a team in the preparation and timely filing of the following items:
US Federal Income Tax Returns (including Form 5471)
US State Income Tax Returns
US State Sales and Use Tax Returns
US State Franchise Tax Returns
US State and Local Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Returns
Year-end Closing Schedules
Foreign tax Credit & E&P workpapers
The Senior Tax Manager - Systems & Compliance must have a thorough knowledge of the applicable tax laws. As changes occur in the tax law, the incumbent is responsible for updating procedures. The incumbent also assists in maintaining and updating the domestic and international tax reporting packages. The incumbent maintains all related tax accounting files and data including the tax stock basis and tax asset basis records.
The incumbent works with domestic Wrigley locations and associated companies to determine and monitor state and local income tax rates to be used for financial reporting. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of the departmental computer tax software. The incumbent is responsible for the collection and analyzes worldwide data for preparation of international portion of the federal tax returns.
This position is accountable for assisting in the timely and accurate preparation of federal and state tax reports and returns and the maintenance of related documentation. The Company's total worldwide tax liability is approximately 300MM USD.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES PERFORMED
1. Leads in the development, implementation and maintenance of tax systems and procedures.
2. Prepares federal, state and local tax returns, extensions and estimates on a timely basis.
3. Leads a team of six tax associates.
4. Prepares special tax studies, projects and research as assigned by the Vice President and Treasurer.
5. Direct interface with each local Wrigley CFO in US tax matters including FIN 48 exposures.
6. Supports the filing of the Mars US and State consolidated tax returns by serving as a direct link for the Wrigley tax compliance data.
7. Works with the Director – Tax Planning to ensure that tax planning initiatives are accurately and appropriately reflected in the Company’s tax returns.
8. Conducts US Federal and State income tax audits and files protests, if necessary, for audit assessments.
8. Monitors US Federal, US State and local tax legislation for its effects on the overall compliance.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; MST preferred
Knowledge of VERTEX, TAXSTREAM & Excel
The Senior Tax Manager - Systems & Compliance must have a thorough knowledge of the applicable tax laws. This position requires an individual who possesses a professional knowledge in accounting with emphasis in the area of corporate taxation, as well as over 10 years of experience in tax return preparation. The incumbent, besides needing solid organizational, analytical and communication skills, must be able to execute oral and written directions effectively and be able to work under strict deadlines.
