The Supplier Development Engineer position requires basic business and project management skills as well as basic Green Belt problem resolution, and root cause/corrective action skills. Over time, training and certification in advanced skills will be required while gaining increasingly advanced experiences.
The Supplier Development Engineer will be engaged on multiple supplier development projects that are focused on reducing risk of poor quality or late delivery to customers due to supplier performance. This will be accomplished by assuring supplier process controls and eliminating waste in supplier processes using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools. Candidate works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires appropriate action and engages with internal and external peers.
Major duties and responsibilities:
Interfaces with Supplier Quality, Global Sourcing and Site Integrated Supply Chain (Procurement / Quality, Manufacturing / Engineering) groups to develop and execute supplier development plans to achieve world-class performance in the supply chain.
Requires engaging and convincing the supplier to take appropriate continuous improvement actions.
Conducts formal project assessments and develops project plans.
Determines appropriate application of process improvement techniques such as variation reduction, lean, black belt and other tools to maximize results.
Develops partner-style relationships with suppliers and up-front agreements on supplier commitment, projects, timing and measurement of results.
Manages all phases of the project life cycle. Responsible for tracking and monthly status reports of Supplier Projects.
Working under general supervision, performs a wide range of assignments using mature judgment and expertise to develop solutions to specified problems.
Responsible to facilitate and/or support supplier performance management reviews.
Fostering Teamwork & Diversity: Very high level of interpersonal skills is required to handle difficult situations as well as to diffuse interpersonal conflict effectively.
Very high level of analytical ability to evaluate and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution of problems that are highly unusual and/or complex.
Basic program management skills with the ability to provide a clear vision of the Supplier Development strategy and processes for internal teams and suppliers.
Experience in leading teams focused on problem solving and driving supplier improvements using Six Sigma Plus tools.
Good negotiation skills and experience in developing win-win relationships with suppliers.
Knowledge and experience in manufacturing costs, ability to document baselines and results to ensure impact of improvement efforts on customer satisfaction.
Ability to perform with normal supervision and oversight.
US Citizenship required due to Government contracts.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials, supply chain, management, business or technical discipline required.
3+ years experience as a Supplier Development or Supplier Quality Engineer or closely related function required.
3+ years experience with Microsoft Office required including strong skills in WORD, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
2+ years experience Consulting, Facilitating and giving Presentations.
Certified Lean Expert and Six Sigma certification strongly preferred.Lean manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
Experience with Aerospace products or related products and customers strongly preferred.
Additional experience or training in RCCA, ESD, blue print reading & GDT and Honeywell eCATS is preferred.
FMEA - Failure, mode, and effects analysis trainer experience preferred.
