Promise Academy Charter School is currently seeking to hire a Certified Licensed Clinical School Social Worker (LCSW) or a Certified Licensed School Social Worker (LMSW) for our openings in our elementary and high schools. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Promise Academy and HCZ, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, experience in a school setting and a love of children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets with students to provide IEP and voluntary one-on-one and group counseling surrounding but not limited to: identifying feelings, peer socialization, bullying, anger management, conflict resolution skills, self esteem, decision making, truancy, substance abuse, stress and grief.
Aids students with behavioral, mental, emotional or physical problems: Counsels students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition indicates need for assistance. Arranges for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures. Attempts to alter attitudes and behavior of parents and teachers that cause or aggravate problems.
Design curriculum and facilitate topic specific groups, workshops and drop in discussion groups to address common social-emotional and/or behavioral issues.
Responsible for assessing high risk situations and making immediate recommendations and referrals in efforts to ensure child safety, reduce or eliminate risk factors.
Works with students and their families to develop strategies (including referrals to outside agencies) for addressing the safety, emotional and basic needs of the students and their families.
Strong collaboration with other HCZ School Social Workers and HCZ programs.
Provides feedback to teachers and administrators on how to best support these and other students. Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and effect solutions.
Serves as liaison between student, home, school, and community resources, such as family service agencies, mental health clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and clergy members.
Recommends change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to effect remedy.
Designs and implements a curriculum that allows parents to talk with a counselor and with each other about how to best support their children’s academic and social development
Share responsibility for grade level and school wide interventions. Works closely with key school staff including but not limited to: Principals, Special Education Department, Deans, Counselors, Family Workers and Intervention Specialists.
Serves as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations that are not referred for direct service.
Reports directly to School Social Work Director.
Attends weekly supervision and team meetings.
Must be a LCSW or LMSW
Provisional school certification
Ideally has at least two years of counseling experience, preferably in a school setting
Work schedule is based on the calendar year, not the school schedule.
