On-call for any after hours unplanned surgery such as c-section, ectopic pregnancy, hysterectomy or ex-lap procedures. Under the supervision of the Prevea Provider, provides assistance to the Operating Room and “Women’s and Infants” by scrubbing, or assisting surgical procedures including C-Section deliveries. Assembles, prepares, and presents surgical instruments, implants, equipment and accessories during surgery under aseptic practices. Responsible for working cohesively with surgeons and staff to perform surgical and diagnostic procedures on call. Review of surgery instructions via provider protocols and Epic documents. Adheres to the Standards of Nursing Practice of Surgical Services, AORN and ACOG.

Required Skills MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is clinic based. The following will reflect responsibilities that will occur within the clinic as well as the hospital setting. (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Assist ENT provider in surgical cases.
  • Shares call to support, ENT and OB providers.
  • Room patients while working within the clinic setting.
  • Obtain and document brief patient history and complaint.
  • Assist with office procedure within the scope of your certification, license or role, under the direction of respective department physician as requested
  • Manage patient phone calls related to your department provider(s). Provide patients direction and/or feedback as recommended by physician, acts as a liaison between the physician and patient to ensure effective and timely communication is taking place, call in or request prescription refills under the direction of the physician and adhere to all related Prevea Policies or department telephone triage protocols.
  • Schedule hospital and clinic based tests, procedures and surgeries.
  • Communicate with hospitals and other offices as directed by the providers.
  • Complete referral forms, and schedule referral appointments.
  • Act as a liaison for physicians.
  • Update the electronic medical record by filing or scanning dictation and test results as they return to the department.
  • Pre-certify for surgical procedures and tests.
  • Assist physicians with scheduling.
  • Facilitate completion of forms (ex. W/C, insurance, etc. by the physicians.)
  • Attend meetings as required and follows the policies of the organization as described in Employee Handbook.
  • Performs, as needed, additional duties as the position expands.
  • Informs supervisor of departmental needs, suggests ideas related to operational or quality improvements as applicable, provides feedback on topics related to surgery scheduling or other aspects related to Prevea’s partner hospitals and the duties of this role
  • Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies for Prevea clinic.

    Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
    Must display excellent teamwork

    Completion of course for surgical technicians from an accredited school. One year of experience as a certified surgical technician, proctoring for first assist preferred.

    Current CPR certification.
    Excellent communication skills.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 250 pounds as needed for patient transfer (with assistance or other staff). Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

    Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
