Job Summary: This job is responsible for supporting patient care in the performance of reception and general clerical duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The incumbent fosters positive customer relations and communications. Essential Functions: Processes all admissions, discharges, transfers and changes within the assigned unit; assembles new patient charts; reviews and updates patient charges as required to keep current. Enters/transcribes orders into information system and on appropriate forms so that patient information is current; communicates orders to involved department(s) as necessary.

Performs receptionist duties at the assigned station; handles incoming and outgoing communications, transfers calls appropriately, answers questions and assists visitors in accordance with established procedures. Updates and verifies patient data in information system; maintains unit specific records (e.g., unit log books, staffing sheets, charts audits, etc.) as assigned. Maintains a neat and organized work environment; orders, stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary; identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair requests in system, tags equipment and removes from service. Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital's Safety, Risk Management and Regulatory Standards.

Participates in quality assurance QualificationsEducation/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred), AND either: completion of a recognized Unit Secretary program (or coursework in a related field), OR 2) six months of recent related work experience, preferably in a medical setting. License/Certification: Certification as a Health Unit Coordinator preferred.
