The University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking an Assistant Instrument & Efficiency Engineer position for the Utilities department to perform duties requiring a high degree of skill in the installation, maintenance, repair and calibration of various pneumatic, electronic and mechanical instruments and controls. The incumbent will report directly to the Instrument and Efficiency Engineer and works closely with the Plant Operating Engineers to insure overall plant integrity.

Installs, repairs and adjusts indicating, recording, integrating and control instruments, such as pressures, temperature and flow meters, combustion control equipment, gauges and flow control devices. Disassembles instruments, and controls, and examines mechanisms, clean parts, replaces worn or broken parts, assembles instruments, and checks testing apparatus. Conducts scheduled inspections of all instruments and makes minor adjustment to those not functioning properly. Calibrates instruments to coincide with established standards and calculates and calibrates when standards are not available. Disconnects inaccurate or damaged instruments and makes suitable replacement parts. Stores, repairs, and maintains in operating condition, special testing apparatus such as Orsats, potentiometer, pitot tubes, thermocouples, manometers and other numerous special testing equipment. Assists members of the maintenance crew as required. Assists members of the operating crew in start up, shut down and operation of plant equipment. Completes operating and engineering reports to document equipment performance, root cause investigations, fuel consumption, energy production, energy consumption, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Two years (24 months) of experience in testing and efficiency work in a utility plant environment having equipment such as industrial boilers, chillers, and electrical generating units. Specialized education in combustion engineering may be substituted for up to one year of experience in testing and efficiency work.
