Network Engineer I
Cox Communications, Cleveland, seeks a highly motivated Network Engineer who wants to be part of a dedicated customer service team. The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining 100% uptime of our carrier routing, switching and application environment. Cox*s Network Engineer will be responsible for assessing equipment and software requirements and determine the optimum solution to meet network service demands. Employee will be responsible for installing previsions, configuring and cabling of network elements. Manage and implement project life cycle, which will include hands-on work. Must understand PRI, Metro-E solutions, MPLS, SONET & DOCSIS technology.

Cox*s Network Engineer plans, designs, and tests complex voice, data, transport, or video/RF networks including individual components and interoperability of multiple network elements.
Employee may perform operational efficiency reviews and develop plans for improvements.
Performs evaluation testing on hardware and software components for new or improved product offerings, network growth and/or customer-specific applications.
Serves as primary subject matter expert of network engineering specialties (Digital, Data, Transport, Voice, etc).
Provides telecommunication solutions to increase operational efficiencies, and expand network services.
Conducts equipment evaluations, equipment selection, pilot testing and network designs to insure reliability and scaled expansion of the network. Prepare engineering cost analysis to optimize the return on investment.
Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to other departments.
Develops network element technical specifications.
Supports new product deployments with installation, integration, testing, documentation, and training. Develops methods and procedures for troubleshooting.
Makes specific recommendations and assists in implementation of plans that enhance technical operation, compliance with rules and regulations, and permits the deployment of new technology.
Defines and compiles the methods of procedures and documentation to support personnel in the maintenance and day-to-day operation of the network.
Develops and executes detailed network designs and architectural plans for network applications. Designs may include backbone planning (SONET), routed IPs, MPLS, digital loop carrier (DLC) design, RF, Internet topologies, Metro-E.
May configure any or all of the following: routers, switches, DWDM, SONET, ATM, and transport technologies.
Designs interfaces for digital telecommunications equipment including fiber optic terminals, multiplexers, digital cross connects, channel banks, DLC and related peripherals.
Works with self and others to ensure equipment is installed and operating properly and resolves problems.
Works closely with customers, directly or indirectly through Sales Engineers, to identify network needs that impact network design and support requirements.
Occasional hands-on installation of cabling and equipment.
Responsible for all aspects of local network management and network management devices.
Facilitates capacity verification to identify network availability during pre-sale analysis (commercial).
Will be required to work on-call shift.
Typically requires Bachelors or Associate degree with strong proven hands-on experience.
Experience with Cisco/Juniper routers, switches, Motorola BSR, ATRICA & ALU Metro-E platforms preferred.
Strong knowledge of routed protocols as TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6.
Extensive knowledge of routing protocols as OSPF / RIP, ISIS, BGP and redistribution.
Knowledge of switching, VLANs, trunking and protocols as STP, advanced Cisco CLI policy maps, and ACL.
Current CCNA certification is preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication.
Must have sense of urgency and project follow-up.
