Pre-employment physical required. DUTIES:
NOTE: T his is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.

This position is located at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Nutrition and Food Services at the North Little Rock or Little Rock Campus. Major duties include:
Sets up cafeteria/tray lines, steam tables with hot and cold food items including meals, vegetables,salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages.
Serves food in patient cafeteria or tray assembly line by placing uniform portions of food on plates according to instructions.
Breaks down and cleans work area including electrical equipment when meal service is finished.
Prepares coffee, tea, and makes punch or lemonade according to established standards and current patient census.
Delivers and retrieves meal trays to or from the patient's bedside. Returns soiled trays and dishes to the dish machine room.
Apportions food items into standard serving size using proper utensils and serving dishes.
In absence of contractor, sets up and operates dish machine and pot and pan washer and cleans equipment after washing dishes according to standard operation procedure.
Works as a member of a team and follows the leadership of higher-grade employees with a positive attitude.
Supports the medical center and Nutrition and Food Services mission, vision and values by responding to the need of the patients' in a timely and professional manner.

Work Schedule: Employees rotate off days every 3 months. NLR Campus tours are: 6am - 10am, 3:30pm - 7:30 pm. LR Campus tours are 3:30pm - 7:30pm.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c ). For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.

Physical effort and work conditions : Incumbent performs work requiring continual standing, walking and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 30 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. The work is performed in a large food service area and kitchen which is well lighted but often hot, humid and noisy. Incumbent is subject to noise, slippery floors, and extreme hot and/or cold temperatures and can be subject to minor cuts, burns, and bruises.

Applicants will be ranked based on three quality groups, as follows:

Best Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that substantially exceed the minimum qualifications of the position and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;

Well Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that exceed the minimum qualification of the position and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;

Qualified - applicants possessing knowledge, skills and abilities that meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best-qualified group.
