Job Description: The University of Missouri seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to oversee marketing, video, news, publications, Web, and emerging media for University of Missouri Extension. MU Extension communicates science-based knowledge and expertise from the University of Missouri by engaging people throughout the state and helping them understand change, solve problems and make informed decisions. This leadership position will strategically address the communication goals of MU Extension.

Primary Responsibilities include:
Provide leadership and vision for statewide communications initiatives, which include the organization’s media relations, video and radio production, marketing, publishing and Web development functions as well as social and other emerging media. Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that brings together all of these functions to meet the organization’s goals.
Establish and maintain partnerships on a state, multi-state and national level that communicate MU Extension’s value and garner political and financial support. Collaborators will include commodity groups, community stakeholders, and higher education constituents and media outlets.
Build a comprehensive communications effort that is respected throughout MU Extension and the larger University community.
Manage and supervise $1M financial and 20 FTE human resources within the communications units, which include providing accountability to the operation, administration and development of resources.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. At least three years of experience as a full-time working journalist in newspaper, radio, magazines and/or TV is required.
Additionally, three to five years of experience in public relations, journalism, public affairs, marketing, or a combination of related career experiences is preferred.
Ability to work non-standard hours, including some weekends will be required. Ability to travel throughout the state of Missouri; some overnight travel will be required.
Additional Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, convergent media or similar field of study is highly desirable. Five-plus years of demonstrated executive-level administrative experience in communications, which could include journalism, marketing, public relations, convergent media and social media. Understanding of public sector and/or nonprofit organizations’ media relations, communications and marketing needs. Experience with strategic planning, budgeting and organizational management. Demonstrated proficiency at hiring and developing employees with diverse skill sets. Excellent interpersonal communications skills; ability to engage and motivate others. Effective analytical and strategic planning skills, including evidence of ability to work across organizational boundaries to achieve results. Highly collaborative work style, positive attitude, commitment to continuous improvement, and ability to build strong work ethics grounded in honesty and integrity. Must be able to travel throughout Missouri on a fairly regular basis using own vehicle.
Salary/Benefits: $75,000-100,000
