Looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the community this summer? Make a Splash Instructors act as a lifeguard or swim instructor during the “Make a Splash” community swim program. They instruct swimmers in basic swimming skills and instruct parents and children in water safety using “Know before You Go” materials. Candidates must have the ability to measure outcomes for participants; enforce pool regulations; encourage parent and children involvement and must follow all YMCA policies. Candidate must provide vigilant, undistracted supervision of the pool and must understand and be able to carry out emergency procedures.

This position reports to the “Make a Splash” Team Leader, who reports to the Associate VP of Aquatics. The incumbent interacts regularly with AAGD apartment managers & “Know Before You Go” partners and participants in the program.

Requirements

Applicant must be 18 years of age or older with reliable transportation; must have current or have the ability to obtain first-aid certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard certification and YMCA Swimming Instructor, or equivalent; must demonstrate the ability teach the KBYG water safety curriculum and the development of basic swimming skills. Candidate must be able to teach, lead others and effectively communicate with participants and their parents; must be able to perform the duties of a lifeguard; remain alert with no lapses in consciousness, think in the abstract, solve problems, make sound decisions.
