As the Medical-Vocational Policies & Practices Lead, you will be responsible for planning and prioritizing the implementation of process improvements and policy changes that enhance the delivery of medical and vocational expertise across Group Protection (GP). You will support medical and vocational initiatives in improved claim management practices, sales support, and product development. You will analyze internal claims data and industry trends in an effort to continuously improve GP's position in the marketplace.


  • Consults with the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Medical-Vocational Operations, and leaders in other business areas to understand business needs and desired outcomes of initiatives related to the delivery of medical and vocational expertise to internal and external customers
  • Coordinates with the BSO and SPO for the delivery of strategic projects and programs to ensure alignment of medical-vocational efforts with other GP initiatives
  • Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer to support implementation of projects related to medical-vocational thought leadership, strategic planning, distribution support, and product development
Research and Analysis
  • Researches system(s) and processes and holds initial discussions with project sponsors to ensure they fully understand the requirements and have looked at alternatives
  • Researches internal claims information, insurance industry data, competitive practices, and national labor information to facilitate a progressive view of GP's positioning in relation to future trends in the market
  • Analyzes and synthesizes information provided by a large number of people who interact with the business and is responsible for eliciting the actual needs of their customers
Process Improvement
  • Translate medical-vocational process improvements into appropriate language for policies and procedures, and coordinates with L&PD and other stakeholders in refining, revising, and training related to medical-vocational policies and practices
Project Management
  • Identifies impacted areas and develops a plan of approach for projects. Facilitates an initial project meeting with stake holders to further define the project scope and begin the process of understanding the requirements of all areas. Develops a project charter and ROI for the business needs identified
  • Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience
  • 3-5+ years of experience in the medical field that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
  • Educational experience and/or proficiency in: Medical and vocational terminology, familiarity with or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of medical and vocational policies, practices, regulation, and public policy. Knowledge of project management and data analysis
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
  • Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
  • Drives performance targets to completion
