LOCATION OF POSITION
Baltimore City, MD
The main purpose of this job is to supervise a group of field auditors who are assigned the task of examining the accounting records of selected taxpayers, based on developed audit programs for compliance with one or more of the business taxes or fees administered by the Comptroller's Office.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
YOU MUST MEET THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION.
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with six credit hours in accounting and fifteen credit hours in related courses (e.g., business finance, economics, business administration, data processing).
Four years of experience performing revenue field auditing or outside tax auditing including one year of experience as a lead tax auditor.
Applicants may substitute two years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles, or professional auditing experience, for one year of the required general experience.
Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
Applicants may substitute additional experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles, or professional auditing experience on a year for year basis for the required education.

YOU MUST MEET THE SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION.
Must have a minimum of two years experience auditing business taxes and/or interpreting alcohol & tobacco tax laws and regulations as a Revenue Field Auditor.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills is a plus for this position when dealing with subordinates and taxpayers.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
