What can you expect in the Powertrain Fuel System Design Engineer position
We are currently looking for a powertrain fuel system design engineer at our Michigan Technical Center within our powertrain engineering team. The successful candidate will apply their product design talents to advance and improve the design quality of both our natural gas vehicle storage and fuel delivery systems.
Lead the design and support the development of natural gas vehicle fuel storage and delivery systems for light duty OEM vehicles
Contribute throughout the design cycle by applying your CAD knowledge and previous design experience
Create Bill Of Materials (BOM) for vehicle fuel systems and related parts
Develop and analyze CAD models and release specifications
Ensure proper engineering Quality through the development of vehicle design technical profiles and code compliance
Conduct product specifications including vehicle systems schematics including but not limited to coolant, LNG, CNG and electrical
Release fact sheets as needed to document analysis work and issue resolution
Conduct analysis and report on test results for durability, regulatory compliance and functionality of the designs
Complete Engineering Change Requests and contribute to product release structures and processes
Work with development and manufacturing engineers to coordinate fabrication and inspection activities
Manage technical specifications, DVP&R, FMEA, and safety analyses
What background will make you successful
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with precision components and/or product design in high-pressure gas, cryogenics, hydraulics, or automotive fuel systems and their components
Previous experience with Westport is preferred
Strong working knowledge of properties of materials and machining or manufacturing techniques is essential
In-depth experience with dimensioning and tolerance of high precision components
Strong experience with QS 9000 and ISO/TS 16949 including working knowledge of APQP and PPAP as used at the OEM level
Hands-on experience with validation, and assembly of mechanical components and must be proficient in 3-D modeling software applications
Demonstrated capability to understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles
Background in a team or product group where OEM vehicle design was a key component
High-pressure gas, vehicle and engine sub-systems experience is required
