Enforces all county fire codes, ordinances and fire laws and regulations of the state in order to protect life and property; complies with all rules, orders, and instructions issued by superior officer. Develops, promotes, implements, and oversees education programs on community life safety, fire, and hazardous material safety and prevention; schedules programs, talks, displays, and demonstrations. Plans, organizes and prepares for all fire/life safety and fire prevention programs and activities; selects and presents appropriate program for target audience such as school children, senior citizens, businesses, civic groups or people of all age groups. Teaches and demonstrates proper fire safety techniques and use of fire extinguishers; re-demonstrates proper actions to ensure procedures and actions are understood correctly; observes participants practice safety techniques. Required to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as deemed necessary. Performs other related duties as required.
Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in Fire Science and Fire Prevention; three (3) years previous experience and/or training that includes public speaking, teaching and course/program development, fire safety, prevention, and suppression methods, fire service management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and/or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate level/endorsement(s). Cannot have been convicted of a felony involving a minor. Must attain and maintain valid Fire and Life Safety Educator certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. May be required to attain and maintain additional certifications, such as an additional Firefighter level, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Fire Officer, Fire Investigator, Hazardous Materials, and/or other certifications, specific to assigned unit.
