Software Application Engineer/Programmer I (Job Number: 322123)
The Defense and Maritime Solutions Business Unit is seeking two Software Application Engineers / Programmers I to assist in the completion of three safety-related tasks for the Department of Defense (DoD).
The DoD has a goal to reduce safety related incidents by 75%. The successful candidate will work as part of a six person team to develop and document procedures and tools that safety engineers will use to promote systems safety opportunities using business case analysis and techniques. The overall process improvement approach has been devised and documented; the team will eecute. The new processes will prioritize proposed safety upgrades based on operational metrics, such as the potential improvement in overall military personnel readiness per dollar spent on safety, and other such metrics that the team will formalize. The team will create web-based software tools that enable safety personnel to tap into safety incident data and link it with other data. The team will add tools and processing that helps safety engineers identify and prioritize safety improvement opportunities based on the various operational metrics. These tools and procedures will help generate a business case for incorporating safety design features that reduce the occurrence of mishaps. The team will execute beta test cases working remotely with deployed personnel. The team will document the procedures, methods, tools, and test cases as course material for use to train safety engineers.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of related experience, or Associates Degree and 3 yrs, or 5 years general experience.
Required Skills: Familiarity with the systems development life cycle (SDLC); experience with database design, development, and documentation, preferably using MS SQL and Access; familiarity with content management systems such as Sharepoint; Web application development experience using .NET, preferably C#.
Desired Skills: Business Case Analysis, Business Process Development, experience with Visual Studio, familiarity with source control systems such as Sourcesafe or Team Foundation Server, Data collection experience, Safety, Teaching/Course materials development, MS Office
