Linux Systems Engineer (Job Number: 310775)
SAIC Carderock currently has an opening for a System Design and Test Engineer. We are looking for an energetic, motivated, independent, self starter for a challenging position supporting a dynamic organization that develops and produces state of the art training and simulation systems. Candidate will be part of a team of engineers developing a variety of naval training and simulation systems. The work location is in Bethesda, MD. Systems are composed of state of the art COTS equipment with some custom hardware designed and built by the team. Some software development may be required, mostly scripting under Linux and perhaps some C and C++. System development will include designing, specifying, unit testing, component integration, overall system integration testing, and verification and validation testing. Work will include the development of new systems and the maintenance of existing systems. Candidate’s responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to: 1) design systems of blades, servers, communications switches, storage devices, and special purpose hardware, 2) load software baselines, run tests, and verify system functionality, 3) examine system displays and verify data flows, 4) troubleshoot problems and replace failed components, 5) generate drawings and documentation, and 6) install equipment on site and test.
A significant amount of travel is required to trainer sites, including Guam, Pearl Harbor HI, San Diego CA, Bangor WA, Norfolk VA, Groton CT, and Kings Bay GA, and will account for 20% - 30% of the job.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degree and 2 years of related work experience.
Required Skills: Candidate MUST be very familiar with Linux. Candidate must be familiar with the latest technology advancements including processors, memory, networking, storage, and the like. Candidate must demonstrate a general commitment to excellence, a dedication to producing quality work results, and an ability to learn and apply new skills. Candidate must be committed to customer service, well organized, able to plan and prioritize assignments, and able to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision and work well under deadlines. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, be courteous and professional when interacting with colleagues and customers, demonstrate a solid ability to identify and solve problems, and be able to work successfully in a team environment.
Candidate must be eligible to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance. Candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Desired Skills: Experience with systems development, integration, and documentation experience, including specification, evaluation, and integration of COTS hardware into systems. Some programming experience in Python, C and/or C++, under a Linux environment is desired. Additional compensation may be available for candidates having specific submarine or surface ship tactical systems experience.
