Assists higher level inspectors in inspecting the construction, alteration or maintenance of buildings and structures of limited size and scope for compliance with the provisions of building and zoning codes and ordinances and adherence to approved plans and specifications by inspecting phases of projects; and performs other related duties as required.

The current vacancies also require the use of a personal vehicle and valid automobile insurance coverage (mileage will be reimbursed).

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

TWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising building construction, preparing and/or reading and applying building plans and specifications, or interpreting and/or applying the Building Code and related ordinances.

Substitution : An Associate degree in architectural or engineering drafting OR a Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university will substitute for the required experience.

Verification Requirement : You must submit evidence of your education within 7 days of filing this application in order to be given credit for the substitution. A reproduced copy of your diploma and/or transcript which shows the embossed seal must be submitted in order to be given credit. Copies will not be returned. Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
