Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for teaching primarily lower division mathematics courses, and other mathematics-related areas such as statistics that support UHWO’s Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, and Bachelor of Applied Sciences degrees.
The teaching load is three courses per semester.
Additional responsibilities include: developing new courses, collaborating in curriculum and program development in mathematics-related fields, and providing academic advising.
Classes are taught days, evenings, and weekends and use various modalities such as interactive TV and the internet.
Instructional faculty are also expected to conduct research or applied scholarship in the discipline and to participate in faculty governance.
Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) from a regionally accredited or recognized college or university in mathematics, or a closely related field (ABD candidates are eligible to apply but must complete all degree requirements prior to appointment).
Evidence of high quality teaching; demonstrated potential for scholarly or applied research in relevant areas.
Demonstrated ability to create mathematics-related curricula particularly in lower division mathematics and mathematics education.
Experience teaching lower division mathematics courses.
Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting.
Experience teaching diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to teach web-based distance education courses.
Willingness to teach mathematics-related courses across disciplines such as social sciences and education.
Experience establishing and/or working in mathematics labs.
