The Pennsylvania State University seeks candidates for the job of Director of Education Technology Services (ETS,, a unit of Teaching and Learning with Technology ( ETS has long been a national leader in the integration of technology and teaching. The Director will work to enhance established programs and work to cultivate relationships across Penn State, including faculty, academic leadership, and the larger learning design community. The Director must be comfortable working in an agile and forward facing organization and be comfortable leading a diverse and talented group.

The Director will help design and implement programs to improve learning; develop strategies for helping faculty re-imagine courses to take advantage of new pedagogical tools and new learning environments; foster innovative and creative ways to support the key educational goals of the University; collaborate effectively with other units to create exemplary residential, online, and hybrid teaching and learning environments that serve faculty and students at all Penn State campuses; and manage day to day operations of approximately 40 Education Technology Services staff, as well as direct supervision of leadership team staff. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Ph.D. is preferred) in an appropriate field with expertise in pedagogy relevant to teaching and learning with technology plus eight years of related experience in course design (higher education preferred) plus eight years of related management or administrative experience including demonstrated success with employee development, performance management, and budget oversight experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with IT staff, faculty and other administrative personnel.

Experience managing large events is also preferred. Must have a working knowledge of emerging directions, course management systems, modern learning design tools, and enterprise systems requirements. Must also have the ability to develop and implement integrated standards, systems, and evaluation processes for all initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the educational experience. Must have excellent communication skills; teaching experience at the University level is desirable.
