This mid-level position is within Teradata Client and Platform Engineering and is titled Software Engineer, IV. Main responsibilities include designing, coding, and testing enhancements for Teradata Data Mover (a 3-tiered JAVA-based highly performant and scalable data movement tool). Primary role for this position is providing Hadoop integration for the Teradata Data Mover product.
This position is responsible for all phases of software development life cycle from inception to customer support. The Software Engineer III is required to write feature, design, and test specifications, along with planning, tracking, and providing status on his/her assigned deliverables. Candidate should have the skills to research and establish technical direction for feature development, perform related analysis, and functional and performance analysis. Moreover, a Software Engineer III should be able to deliver entire product components (e.g., Data Mover's Viewpoint portlet, daemon server, agent package, etc.) both independently and in "working through others".
Required Skills and Attributes:
Thorough understanding of Hadoop architecture and related technologies
Experience with using HDFS, WebHDFS, Hive, HCatalog, Pig, HBase
Experience developing Hadoop Map Reduce functions
Working knowledge of SQL
Proven system design, excellent problem solving, and strong debugging skills.
Responsibility for architecture, design and development of enhancements for the Teradata Data Mover product line.
JAVA programming in various areas of the product with development projects varying greatly in size and scope.
Participate in planning, design, code, test and documentation of major software components according to a standard development process.
Perform related requirements analysis, performance analysis and problem analysis.
Strong analytical abilities involving software in a parallel processing environment.
Personal and personnel resource management skills to successfully work on multiple assignments at one time.
Experience on an Agile development team having participated in SCRUM sessions and contributing to project deliverables in frequent sprints.
Familiarity of shell (Bourne and Korn), Perl, or other scripting languages.
Good understanding of UNIX and/or Windows operating systems (kernel, file systems, memory management, TCP/IP, etc.).
Ability to understand and work with complex parallel software.
Demonstrated examples in setting commitments and meeting deadlines.
Thorough understanding of relational databases.
Written and oral communication proficiency.
Stable work history.
Experience with or knowledge of Aster Database
Experience with or knowledge of Aster/Teradata SQL-H
Experience with or knowledge of the design and construction of the database engine software. Preferably, the Teradata Database System and its associated client utilities; however Oracle, DB2, or others would apply.
Experience using Eclipse for software development, and a variety of open source tools.
Basic administration skills on a variety of Windows and UNIX platforms (e.g., Solaris Opteron, HPUX Itanium, AIX, Windows 2003 Server, RedHat and SuSE Linux, etc.) including device driver development.
C and/or C++ programming in various areas of the product with development projects varying greatly in size and scope.
Familiarity with and/or direct experience working on web development and/or design teams (i.e., LAMP experience).

Experience based on the following degree levels:
BS in Computer Science or related technical field with at least 5 years architectural design and programming experience
MS in Computer Science or related technical field with at least 3 years architectural design and programming experience
PhD in Computer Science or related technical field with no work experience
Software development experience within medium and large teams where design documentation, unit testing, and merging source code were important tasks to complete work.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and general direction.
Software development in a Microsoft Windows or Linux environment using Continuum Tool Stack (CTS) utilities (e.g., JIRA, Wiki, TeamCity, Crucible, TestNG, Clover, FishEye, and Subversion).
