The DBA is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the databases. Additional role requirements include planning, development and troubleshooting, security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency). We are primarily but not exclusively a MariaDB shop.

The DBA will:
  • Work closely with IT project managers and developers
  • Coach the development team with regard to best practices
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Ensure that the database back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
  • Manage database security. Because of the increasing levels of hacking and the sensitive nature of data we store, security and disaster recovery are increasingly more important
  • Manage security patches to production databases
  • Maintain and improve the company’s data encryption standards
  • Perform data maintenance
  • Engineer and optimize new database clusters
  • Improve on existing monitoring
  • Manage user access permissions and privileges
  • Research new database technologies (elastic search engines, for example)
  • Install and test new versions of database engines, operating systems, file systems
  • Monitor performance and manage the tunable parameters on the database engines and the operating systems to provide consistently fast query responses
  • Refine the logical model of existing schemas
  • Maintain existing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary.
  • Perform capacity planning
Required Experience:
  • 5 years IT operation with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • 3 years of MariaDB or MySql databases.
  • BE or BS Degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field preferred
  • Understanding of, and experience with, server-client computing and relational database environments
  • Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
  • Good understanding of the organizations goals and objectives
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Technical documentation skills
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
  • Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
