The Food Service Manager is responsible for the overall smooth, efficient operation of the kitchen, while maintaining high culinary standards, creativity and quality. He/She also oversees the recruiting, training and managing a kitchen staff in their daily activities and motivating the staff to strive for culinary excellence. In addition the Food Service Manager will be responsible for all inventory supplies, equipment, food purchasing, receiving, and budgets and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions and departmental standards for quality food production and service. He/She must be able to ensure that all residents’ meals are prepared according to planned menus that meet the dietary requirements for all residents. The ideal candidate has a High School diploma/GED with additional education/training in food service management. At least three years prior experience in management or supervision in a food service setting, health care food service preferred.

The following is a representative list of duties and responsibilities associated with this position:
-- Assures policies, procedures, and practices in meal service and kitchen operation meet and comply with the federal and state regulations, OSHA, and Department of Health. Immediately implement any corrective action should any violation occur
-- Prepare meals according to menus ensuring all meals meet the dietary requirements of each resident
-- Train, supervise and schedule dietary staff
-- Assist in the preparation of menus, and make suggestions for new recipes and menu ideas. Maintain a recipe file
-- Ensure food is prepared and served to accommodate special diets, and food is served according to the recommended portion control
-- Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and its equipment
-- Ensure safety in the operation of the kitchen and dining room, and immediately report hazards or faulty equipment to the Dietary Manager or Maintenance Supervisor
-- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff to facilitate the meal service function and dietary needs of residents are met
-- Supervise the dietary aide/kitchen staff, and provide direction
-- Assist in the planning and preparation of refreshments for special events and functions
-- Attend Resident Council meetings. Prepare and submit any reports as required
-- Immediately report any employee injury to the Dietary Manager
-- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the delivery of quality meal service program at the senior care community
